I'm 3 years out of college, during my first 2 years post undergrad, I worked for a small linguistic PMO that did not award me much useful knowledge other than project management working under extreme pressure with around the clock deadlines, I learned to be extremely self sufficient and for all intents and purposes just "get things done". For the last 6 months I've been working in a Healthcare IT PMO and made the transition hoping to acquire more technical skills.
I act in a coordinator capacity and my day consists of managing and customizing Salesforce & SAP, data analysis and migration, reports & dashboards, process builds, workflows, PMO trainings & templates– no certs under my belt. I am also providing hands on assistance on site with a well known hospital system in the north east.
I realized that I do not want to stay in project coordination/management and want to transition into strategic consulting. How can I leverage my education and skills that I've acquired during the last years to move into consulting? Which kind of organizations should I be looking at and applying to? I would love to move in this direction in my current organization, however, the type of role I'm aiming for doesn't exist in my organization, there is a large push on the traditional project management route.
Thank you for your feedback.
