I'm approaching 1 year into the post-MBA position at MBB. Not trying to leave tomorrow, but the hours do kick my ass so I've found myself wondering when is the right time to leave. The conventional wisdom I've heard is that the sweet spot for exiting is either after you make the first promotion (to manager) or when you're a partner.
That said, I wanted to test this with the r/consulting audience. If someone is trying to optimize their exit from MBB (presumably solving for breadth + quality of opportunities), what makes most sense? Further, what are the tradeoffs for leaving at the 2 year / 3 year / 4 year… mark?
