Super interested to hear if anyone has heard of Port Jackson Partners (Australian boutique strategy firm) and has a sense of the quality of their work. They seem to focus only on strategy (no implementation). Their partners are almost all top pedigree (ex-MBB) but their analysts perhaps are not as strong (assuming the best analysts will have chosen MBB over boutique). How is the firm and their ex-staff regarded?
A follow up question about going for competitive jobs after 2-3 years in consulting (from analyst level). Eg jobs that expect “MBB strategy experience”. Potentially outside of Aus.
The Port Jackson brand may not be well known worldwide and thus in future interviews may not be as well regarded as MBB. However if the quality of their work is similar, and a consultant has developed similar skills, perhaps the consultant’s skills would shine through in the interview and the brand would be less important. What do you think is more important for exit roles—skills or brand?
